DESIGN FOR SPECIAL NEEDS
Project: For a country like India, where there are many unorganized roadways, wayfinding is a major issue. This issue is particularly prevalent, especially in local markets and bazaars where it is made worse by heavy foot traffic and crowds. Those who are unfamiliar with the area or need to get to a certain spot are particularly impacted by this. Although Google Maps is a useful tool, sometimes it provides the wrong instructions or does not specify some locations due to the unorganized nature of the roadways.

Insights
The current wayfinding Procedure requires contextual awareness and continual social engagement, which might be challenging for introverts or persons who are limited by their language, cultural or social barriers.

The density and similarity of a given area inversely affects the precision of provided directions.

Existing navigation systems do not utilize the real view perspective of the users

How does It work?
The solution focuses on a wayfinding system that allows users to move around the bazaar using sign boards placed around the bazaar, using them as a reference and arriving at a required area they need to. The system still values and incorporates the Social connection of asking for directions.
The boards function as :
-
New simpler landmarks that shopkeepers can use to give directions to new users.
-
Signages that simplify the exploring and searching
-
Checkpoints for users to keep as a reference of a place.

" It is very helpful, especially for those who are new to the space, I myself get lost a lot. The concept of percentage is very interesting but I didn't understand it at first "
" This is a good thing to add in the market but I think maybe you can consider how you arrange the boards overall "
